Planning a family getaway can sometimes feel like a second job, balancing nap schedules, finding food that everyone will actually eat, and making sure there’s enough entertainment to keep the "I'm bored" comments at bay. Luckily, if you’re heading to Greenville, South Carolina, you’ve hit the jackpot.
Greenville has transformed into one of the most family-friendly destinations in the Southeast. From world-class museums to sprawling parks that feel like a scene from a movie, there is no shortage of things to keep your little ones (and the big kids, too) occupied.
At the Sleep Inn® at Greenville Convention Center, we love hosting families. Our Designed to Dream™ property is specifically built to be a sanctuary of relaxation after a busy day of exploring. Whether you’re here for a weekend or a week-long vacation, here are 10 kid-approved things to do in Greenville that will make your trip unforgettable.
1. The Children’s Museum of the Upstate (TCMU)
If there is one "must-do" on your list, this is it. TCMU is one of the largest children’s museums in the country and is a Smithsonian Affiliate, so you know the quality is top-notch. With over 80,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits, your kids can spend hours here and still not see everything. From a giant climbing structure that spans multiple floors to a pint-sized grocery store and an outdoor "Nature’s Way" area, it’s a paradise for curious minds.
2. Falls Park on the Reedy & Liberty Bridge
Located right in the heart of downtown, Falls Park is Greenville's "crown jewel." Kids love walking across the Liberty Bridge, a curved suspension bridge that offers a bird's-eye view of the rushing waterfalls below. After you’ve snapped a few photos, head down to the grassy areas where kids can run around, or let them carefully explore the rocks by the water’s edge. It’s the perfect spot for a family picnic.
3. Mice on Main Scavenger Hunt
Looking for a way to explore downtown without the kids complaining about walking? The Mice on Main scavenger hunt is a Greenville tradition. Inspired by the book Goodnight Moon, there are nine tiny bronze mice hidden along a nine-block stretch of Main Street. Pick up a hint sheet at the Visitors Center and see who can find the most! It turns a simple stroll into a high-stakes adventure.

4. Greenville Zoo & Cleveland Park
The Greenville Zoo is perfect for families because it’s compact and manageable. You can see everything, from giraffes and lions to red pandas, in about 90 minutes. It’s located inside Cleveland Park, which is home to several fantastic playgrounds, tennis courts, and walking trails. It’s an easy way to spend a morning outdoors without the overwhelm of a massive theme park.
5. Unity Park & Splash Pad
One of the newest additions to the city, Unity Park is a total game-changer. It features a massive, modern playground with separate areas for toddlers and older kids. On a hot South Carolina afternoon, the splash pad is the place to be. There’s plenty of green space for a game of tag, and the park is connected to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, making it very accessible.

6. GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail
Grab some rental bikes and hit the Swamp Rabbit Trail. This 22-mile multi-use greenway connects downtown Greenville with the nearby town of Travelers Rest. For families, the section through downtown and Unity Park is particularly flat and easy to navigate. Along the way, you can stop at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery for a wood-fired pizza or a fresh pastry, they even have a small playground on-site for the kids!
7. Runway Park at Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU)
If your kids are obsessed with airplanes, this park is a dream come true. Located right next to the runway of the downtown airport, Runway Park lets kids play on aviation-themed structures while actual planes take off and land just a few yards away. It’s educational, exciting, and completely free. There’s also a mini-golf course and a cafe where you can grab lunch while watching the action.
8. Roper Mountain Science Center
For the future scientists in the family, Roper Mountain Science Center is a treasure trove of learning. From the planetarium and arboretum to the "Living History Farm," there’s always something new to discover. Check their schedule for "Second Saturdays," which feature special public events and themed activities designed specifically for families.
9. Paris Mountain State Park
Need a break from the city? A short 15-minute drive from downtown takes you to Paris Mountain State Park. It’s the perfect place for a family hike, a paddleboat ride on Lake Placid, or even just some quiet time in the woods. The trails range from easy to moderate, so even younger kids can handle the trek.
10. Group Therapy Pub & Playground
Don’t let the name fool you, while this spot serves great drinks for the adults, it is a huge hit for kids during the day. Group Therapy features "wacky golf" (an indoor mini-golf course with movie-themed holes), ice curling, and plenty of table games. It’s a great indoor option if the weather isn't cooperating or if you need an evening activity that keeps everyone entertained.
